Do any of you musicians either in a band or out have any phunny or otherwize stories to tell about what happened to them in their bands?
I have a couple to tell.
The first was at Easter 2003. and at that i was in a band connected to the Queen Alexandra college in Birmingham. on the last week of term, we had to do a college gig for the fello students on fridays usually. At that time, i was not in a good mood, having only just been ditched by my then girl friend, who played the keyboard in the band. however on that day, she coulden't perform because she was away in Peterborough. plus i was getting very irritated by the lack of tallent in the vocalists. And that irritation came to a peak when we played the last song You really got me by the kinks. At the end, my pashents snapped and i kicked over the drum kit. this was the only occation when i took out my thrustrations on the kit.
the other story took place 3 years later, when i was studdeying contempory popular music at Castle College in Nottingham. On that day, we were rehearsing for a gig at a local venue. some time during the rehearsal, the bass player [who is a bit of an accident prone type] was sitting on the floor playing with 1 of my cymbal stands. this was the stand holding the ride cymble. any way the stand and cymbal must've had enough, for the stand toppled over and the cymbal hit him in the face and gave him a nose bleed. he's recovered now, and is still in the band today.
So, anybody got any stories to tell?
funny or otherwise? Well i have had a few experiences. The first one was I guess predictable. I had met with a few people and we got ready to practice and get songs together. There were many disagreements between the members but me (I guess its hard to accept blindness even on music) and i just had to leave that band. Other experiences have been like this: One time we were jamming and getting ready to record the tracks on a cd. Well, it turns out that the cd was wrongly recorded and so when we finished a song we would hear hour arguments and discussions and then we would ear the rehursing in between songs. Another experience (and i guess this is why many find afro-caribbean music difficult) deals with the concept of the clave. I like to put some beat displacement during solos when I play montunos (in mostly descargas to attract atention to the piano). So it turns out that i kept on confusing most of the percussionists and we had to stop the music in the middle of a performance. It was somewhat embarrassing.
